Take Action Against Global Warming

image

From the Take Action section of the website www.climatecrisis.net

Do something to help stop global warming. 10 simple things you can do plus how much carbon dioxide you'll save doing them.

Change a light Replacing one regular light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb will save 150 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

Drive Less Walk, bike, carshare or take public transit more often. You'll save one pound of carbon dioxide for every mile you don't drive!

Recycle more You can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide per year by recycling just half of your household waste.

Check your car tyres Keeping your tires inflated properly can improve gas mileage by more than 3%. Every gallon of petrol saved keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of our atmosphere!

Use less hot water It takes a lot of energy to heat water. Use less hot water by installing a low flow showerhead (350 pounds of CO2 saved per year) and washing your clothes in cold or warm water (500 pounds saved per year).

Avoid products with a lot of packaging You can save 1,200 pounds of carbon dioxide if you cut down your garbage by 10%.

Turn down your thermostat Move your thermostat down just 2 degrees in winter and up 2 degrees in summer. You could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year with this simple adjustment.

Plant trees A single tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide over its lifetime.

Turn off electronic devices Simply turning off your television, DVD player, stereo, and computer when you're not using them will save you thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

Spread the word! Tell everyone you know about these simple ways to Take Action!

I have bee stitching well for the last fortnight. I am on my Easter Break from the Photography and of course rather than getting my work done I have been stitching instead... nuaghty I know but isn't that when you enjoy it the most when it is an illicit pleasure... naughty me! I will work twice as hard next week to make up I promise....

Also reading an excellent book at the minute called 'the end of Mr Y' about a 1/4 of the way through but tloving it a real page turner for me....

Will post a new piccy of the Taj this evening

So have been on a little holiday...which was fabulous. Though now I feel like I need a holiday to get over the holiday! Mad isn't it!? Still not much stitching been done, but it is calling me... I have just got to get Un finished which is May .... so fingers crossed.. I didn't get much photography done over the last few weeks.. which is rather a set back to things but hopefully now the jetlag is starting to wane I might just get back into gear....

So the Degree course, is now well under way, and my feet haven't touched the ground since! I don't think I have ever been so rushed off my feet before... It's consuming every waking minute! I am so glad I am only doing the part time course as I think I would have quit if I was on the full time work load.... there is so much work and the cost! I thought sewing was an expensive hobby! I used to think I was quite well off! Not any more.... I am starting to get into Debt for the 1st time in 10years!!! Which I am not at all comfortable with. I am hoping things will start to calm down further in the next month or so. Not really been having any great photo shoots yet... My Photography appears to have gotten worse and not better to the viewer! But that is because now I am in total control of the camera and all the auto functionality is now turned off. So no photo's as yet worth uploading to show you all.... will post them as soon as I create them! Promise.... See you all soon.

Here's hoping... will keep you all up to date with my progresses though.. Diz

So here's my latest progress picture, I have managed to get round that bottom corner and onto nearly half way. I am enjoying the stitching, but it's not a fast grower. But I do think it's going to be a lifetime best when I have finished it. I really have that pride over the work I am doing on this one...... I do hope I will get to finish it.....

Since I have news of another kind I am going back to University at the end of the month. I am going to do another degree, but this time in a creative discipline. Photography!!! No comments please on the photo's shown below.....

I am both nervous and excited about this adventure, and hope I can juggle all areas of my life successfully since, I am wife, mother and home maker! here's hoping.... will let you all know how I get on.. fingers crossed & wish me luck!

Had a difficult stitching week.... bit of a slump either time restrictions or blues.. but I have now finished the centre segment of the Taj Design, beads and all.... I have played around with the orientation of the beads... to give it a starburst effect.... so they all point to the diagonals. I couldn't face the idea of finishing all the stitching and then having to start all over again with the beading. I am now going to go back to doing the outer border though, I really want to stitch something else for a bit of a break, think I am going to have to buy me some more q snaps though, I need to anyway, but I think I will have to order them sooner rather than later... well off to cook for dinner for us all. He's the progress piccies....

We have had loads of rain lately.... loads and loads.... even flooding in some parts of the country..... people have died... it's been pretty awful. Hubby has been off owrk for 10 days in holiday so we have had a couple of short breaks which were lots of fun...but it's back to normal tommorrow. So here is my latest update in Taj, I think its growing a bit quicker now.... but I still think it'll take the rest of this year to finish.... I am currently kitting up to Dragon Dreams designs which I am thinking of slipping in as quick stitches to give me a bit of a break. The only thing I am worrying about is that I might not get back to it and it'll become a wip.... perhaps I should stay strong and focused.. what do you think????

    Well here is is:

Hi Guys, Sorry I haven't been on time with the posting of this piccy, I haven't been very well again for the last couple of days. But here she is now:

    image

Cross Stitch so far

2007
May Started Taj Mahal, June still workin in Taj Mahal Progress pics are above. At first I thought it was going to be a UFO as it was such a slow grower and so difficult to understand what to do next.... but I pushed through and we make progress slowly so I am happy to keep plodding for the time being..... I am also excited about starting to the Taj's themselves. Which is going to be fun....

Don't like most of these fabrics on arrival for the intended projects.... bit annoyed about that.... but I will use them I think with other projects. The origianl fabric I choose for Cinderella was shimmering fairy's eve, which I have now used on Witchy Washy instead and it's looks fab.... so I will just have to change things around as I go.

image Finished Bessie P. Gutmann's Happy Dreams, so I am also kitting up Mirabilia's Cinderella, and the Garden series just waiting on the fabrics to arrive... Fabric Arrived for Cinderella no idea what to use for the Garden Series yet... image

wow that orchid looks fantastic... very life like. I love orchids... in my last aprtment they thrived, but this house doesn't work so well for plants... but my garden is gorgeous.... very sheltered which means I can over winter my other favourite plant very easily (Fuchsia's). I have several that I have had for about 4 years, though I did loose one this year to Vine Weevil. They love Fuschia's as much as me, but their love kills them... they eat the roots. Keep up the gorgeous stitching. Diz

Thanks for your comment. your stitching is beautiful- i especially love your chatelaine WIP and the completed Mira mermaids (the fabric is a pretty complement to your stitching). Which HAED do you have in your stash?

Hi, I have several HAED in my stash... I'll try and remember a few of them.... the Music Lesson by Lord Leighton, story keep as a quick stitch, Mask of colours full design, Noon day rest, Frog Price as a quick stitch. I have a few more as well... bit of a stashoholic! When I have finished Taj I'll start the music lesson as its all kitted up and ready to go...image
